Mount Mitchell Hike (July 17, 2020)

I attempted to hike from ~3,000 feet at the Black Mountain Campground up to Mount Mitchell, which is the highest point east of the Mississippi River at 6,684 feet in elevation. I only made it to 6,100 feet, but I got some great photos along the way. They were definitely the highlight of this hike. Enjoy!

A beautiful pink tinge gives a pop of color to this photo.

An overlook with an amazing natural frame on the halfway point of my hike.

The Black Mountains come into view.

Paralelling the ridgeline toward Mt. Mitchell State Park.

High-elevation heaven.

Thunderclouds roll over the rolling mountain peaks.

A storm settles over the Blue Ridge Mountains for a spell.

Trees frame the Black Mountains.

The "peak" of perfection.

A closer view of the stormclouds rolling over the mountains.

A vast, vivid and vivacious vista.

The vistor center overhang creates a nice framing device.
