At the end of 2025, I decided to mix things up for my next trip. While I normally opt for road trips to go hiking and find material for my photography, I wanted to challenge myself to go to a big city and use only public transportation to get around. I chose Seattle because of my passion for specialty coffee and its excellent public transit (for American public transit, at least). I was also able to snag an excellent deal on a flight due to a credit from my cancelled trip to Minnesota.
Because of this change in perspective, I am considering posting more content here that focuses on craft coffee and specialty food and beverages. I started keeping a journal of everything I ate and drank in Seattle (with a special focus on coffee) and it is a habit I want to continue into the future. It is more important than ever in these uncertain and ominous times to savor every experience and commit it to memory for the time when such experiences may no longer be possible.
Highlights of this trip included the Seattle Waterfront, the Harbor Steps, the International District, the WA State Ferry system, my hotel's gym, and spending time in Fremont and Ballard with my cousin and his wife. One of the top five restaurant meals I have ever had in my life was in Ballard - an eggplant schnitzel at Cafe Sabine.
And I can't forget coffee shops like Day Made, Hagen Coffee Roasters, Fulcrum Coffee, Ghost Note, Phe, Hello Em, Aroom, Analog, Victrola, and Hood Famous.
I'll do a post about all the coffee stuff later. For now, enjoy the photos. I didn't get to bring my camera with me (my biggest regret about how I planned this trip) due to trying to travel light, but I think my phone did an okay job.
